Celebrity Athletes and Community Leaders Attend Evening in the End Zone
This year, with legendary University of Georgia and NFL kicker Kevin Butler as the Host Committee Chair and emcee for the second year in a row, three awards were presented to three deserving leaders. First, the Gary Stokan Hero of the Gridiron Award was given to former college and professional football quarterback and 1996 Heisman Trophy winner, Danny Wuerffel. Second, the George Crumbley Vision for the Future Award was given to Ron Canakaris, Chairman and Co-Chief Investment Officer of Montag & Caldwell and limited partner of the Atlanta Falcons. Lastly, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Beacon of Hope Award was awarded to Dr. William Degenhart for his unwavering commitment to vision and hearing care for the uninsured in his community.
Guests enjoyed tours, hors d'oeuvres on the playing field, a live auction, door prizes, and appearances by multiple well-known sports personalities. Additionally, The Lighthouse accepted a generous $50,000 contribution from Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl CEO Gary Stokan.
Proceeds from the auction will go directly toward supporting programs of The Lighthouse including eye screenings, eye exams, glasses, surgeries, and hearing aids for uninsured and underserved Georgians.
