Iowa CJC Bestows Honor on Bay Area Performer/Composer Marcia Migét

On Sunday 21 October 2018 North Bay's Marcia Migét will receive the Iowa CJC Hall of Fame Award at Noce Jazz Club in Des Moines, Iowa.

With a three decade history in the San Francisco Bay area as a performer and educator Ms. Migét grew up the Midwest taught music by her parents. Marcia and her sisters performed on piano, sax, drums and bass, as well as vocals, renditions of Jazz and pop classics for television, radio, special events and musical clinics. From a very early age 'Mee-J studied piano, saxophone and flute the results of her talent and commitment to music earned numerous awards.

 A graduate of Drake and NEA 'Jazz Artists in Schools' recipient, Marcia traveled nationally, performing and developing curriculum using music to teach basic skills. A Member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences since 1988 she composed and directed 'We Are The Children' which was selected for and performed at the Bay Area Music Awards by her Miraflores Children's Choir.

 Since 2001, the Des Moines Jazz Hall of Fame has selected and honored musicians for the that have not only influenced future generations of musicians, but have provided local and national audiences the pleasure of Jazz. Marcia Migét joins a list of Jazz Center Hall of Famers which include Frank Perkowsky, Wille Thomas, Bob Washut, Steve Charleson, her sister Susie Miget and former band members, Bobbie Parker and Dartanyan Brown.

Over the course of her performance career 'Mee-J' has played with an array of Bay Area and national musical notables across all genres. A short list includes: Carlos Santana, Wayne Wallace with Pete Escovedo, Lester Chambers Blue Review with Steve Cropper, Tyrone Hill, Tara Middleton and DM Hotep of Sun Ra's Arkestra, Donald Byrd, Charlie Rouse, Freddie Redd, Jimmy Cobb, Buddy Baker, Frank Foster, Jaimeo Brown Transcendence, Anthony Brown and the Asian American Orchestra, Kash Killion, Kenny Barron, Larry Ridley, Arnie Lawrence, Montclair Woman's Jazz Band with Vicki Randal, San Francisco All Star Jazz Band lead by David Hardiman with Kevin Eubanks, Kim Nalley and Faye Carol.

An 'on call' studio musician, Migét's performed and recorded with legends of every genre. Her current projects for 'Mee-J': her two contemporary Jazz singles 5oth Anniversary tribute 'Dock of the Bay' and October release 'Cruzin', produced by Chris Davis; creating music for the upcoming documentary on Cesar Chavez, 'Song for Cesar'; and producing Jorge Santana's solo project, 'Restoration'. Carlos Santana's description of her seminal CD, 'Marcia Migét Discovery', is " … her music reflects a strong, deep and honest commitment to life."
