CLAYTON, N.C. - Oct. 17, 2018 - PRLog -- North Carolina will host the third annual Helen's Run/Walk Southeast on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at East Clayton Community Park in Clayton, North Carolina, 50 years after the passing of Helen Keller, for whom the event is named.

Keller inspired generations of Americans by overcoming adversity and drawing attention to the deaf-blind community — the same goals shared by the event's presenters, Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults (HKNC) and North Carolina Deaf-Blind Associates (NCDBA).  Scheduled rain or shine, Helen's Run/Walk 2018 Southeast will benefit the programs and services of both organizations.

"We're so excited to be holding this year's Helen's Run/Walk Southeast in such a beautiful location," observed HKNC Regional Representative Southeast Marilyn Trader.  "Not only is it a half hour from the Eastern School for the Deaf in Wilson, but East Clayton Community Park is the future home of Harmony Playground, where children of all abilities will be able to laugh, play, and interact in a safe and welcoming environment.  It's the perfect fit for an inclusive event like the upcoming run/walk."

According to HKNC Executive Director Sue Ruzenski, an estimated 2.4 million people in the United States live with combined vision and hearing loss.  "An event like the 5K Helen's Run/Walk 2018 Southeast is a fun yet important way to raise funds to expand and enhance services with the deaf-blind community," she remarked.  "It's an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to spend the morning running or walking with friends, family, and coworkers for a good cause."

For serious runners, the event is a professionally timed race on a certified course.  Additionally, awards will be presented to the Top 3 Overall Male/Female and Top 3 Male/Female in each age group.  An award will also be given to the first physically challenged male and female finishers, and to the 1st Place Finish, 2nd Place Finish, and 3rd Place Finish person who is Deaf-Blind.

Local businesses and national companies are encouraged to act as sponsors for the event.  More information on participating in or sponsoring Helen's Run/Walk 2018 Southeast is available by visiting https://runsignup.com/race/nc/clayton/helensrunwalksoutheast.
