Now Available On Amazon, 'What Animal Am I?' Kid's Book Teaches Reading, Counting and Shapes

The sixth title in the Funky Dreamer Storytime children's book library by author Greg Wachs, 'What Animal Am I?' introduces geometry and biology to pre-schoolers, provides counting and naming exercises

LOS ANGELES - Oct. 16, 2018 - PRLog -- Broadening young children's understanding of mathematics and biology using a variety of geometric shapes coupled with rhyming riddles about animals they know and love is the foundation of author Greg Wachs' most recent kid's book, What Animal Am I?

"My newest book features illustrations created using geometric forms in an artistic technique called 'Low Poly.' This book bring shapes to the forefront while kids enjoy the rhyming clues, then guess what animal they describe and learn about each animal's lifestyle and habitat," Wachs explained. "The book is a series of riddles accompanied by shapes for kids to count and name. Then, on the next page, the animal's face appears, built out of this variety of geometric shapes."

The goal of What Animal Am I? is to engage young children in the written word and introduce mathematics, geometry, and ecology in an entertaining way.

"Building children's geometric imagination is an important part of exploring spatial relations and experiencing mathematics," writes (https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/articles/17-18/explor...) Douglas Clements, PhD, author of the teaching textbook Exploring Geometry With Young Children. "During the preschool years, children's intuitive knowledge of geometry frequently exceeds their numerical skills. By building on strengths and interests that are already present, we can foster an ongoing enthusiasm for mathematics and provide a logical context to develop number ideas."

The unique geometric drawings – including a colorful tiger, giraffe, wolf, snow leopard, panda, hummingbird, fox, and dog, accompanied by vibrant flowers, leaves, grasses, and bamboo – are the creation of illustrator Yana Kossova. Since childhood, Kossova spent all of her free time in front of an easel, and could not imagine life without drawing. Based in Israel, Kossova works in freehand, as well as various digital methods, including the "Low Poly" technique used in What Animal Am I?
