Startup Creates Opioid Addiction Treatment Technology

A company is developing a telehealth app to connect patients to addiction treatment counselors.
 
DUBLIN, Ohio - Oct. 15, 2018 - PRLog -- A startup company called Apportis LLC won a $200,000 grant and is developing a telehealth app to connect patients to addiction treatment counselors.

Apportis LLC was one of 12 companies that were awarded grants by the Ohio Opioid Technology Challenge.

The challenge is overseen by the Ohio Third Frontier Commission, which Gov. John Kasich set aside $8 million to go toward encouraging business to develop technology to improve addiction treatment and intervention methods.

The challenge is broken down into three phases. The Idea phase focused on generating innovative ideas from multiple companies. The Challenge phase centered on product plans.

The forthcoming Product phase will allow the winning companies of the Challenge phase to submit their products for market consideration and a $1 million grant.

Foudned in 2015, Apportis LLC specializes in telehealth. The app they are developing is a streamlined version of their online platform. In addition to connecting addiction treatment patients to counselors, the app will also detail county resources across Ohio and include substance abuse educational videos. Individuals without smartphones will be able to access the app at specific kiosks located in homeless shelters, clinics and hospitals.
