BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Oct. 9, 2018 - PRLog -- The growing trend in domestic violence and increase in AIDS prevalence cases and suicides are putting Brunswick, GA in the spotlight for more than being an important port city and the shrimp capital of the world. From stories of spousal abuse to children abusing and killing their own parents and grandparents, it is clear the city is in need of healing.

Fortunately, Heal the City-Brunswick is taking place next week. Heal the City- Brunswick is a one-day event filled with community leaders and dynamic speakers prepared to inspire hope and initiate change. Topics will include mental health, rape, molestation, domestic abuse, sexual health and well-being, leadership, and spiritual health. The goal is to provide sustainable, valuable resources to heal attendees and their families, individuals, and cities, in a safe and non-judgmental environment pushing individuals to first be self leaders.

President and director Laurinda Andujar hosted the first Heal the City event in Homestead, FL in 2015 before incorporating the event, creating a not-for-profit, and deciding to take the event on the road. Andujar is a survivor of molestation, childhood bullying, and domestic violence, as well as she survived a suicide attempt, so she knows firsthand the effects of trauma.

"People often look at people who attempt suicide or commit suicide as cowards, but until you are in that dark placeā€¦ Life is so bad at times, that suicide is their only option. So having that dialogue and letting people know that mental health is something we need to look at and pay attention to, is so important," shares Andujar. "Pay attention to our children, because they are fighting battles that we know nothing about. When we go through stuff, when we struggle-, they walk through that pain with us. So it's important for us to be able to we share our stories, our testimonies, our failures, our wins- be transparent with everyone around us. Because if we save one life, we shift the entire legacy for the world, because we never know the impact it may have."

For these reasons, Andujar is bringing the city out for a day of healing. "You are NOT alone! I am beyond excited to bring Heal the City to Brunswick. Come join myself, Pastor Curtis Geary, Pastor Shonda Hollis, Pastor Paula Burt, James Abram, Francheska Felder, Donna Janel, Angel Tatum Hicks, Dr. Cassandra Parks, and others as we share our stories of going from victim to victorious," Andujar explains. Andujar is also a John C. Maxwell team member with years of professional speaking under her belt.

The event will take place October 20, 2018 at Rhema Community Church located at 154 Cornerstone Drive. Community partners include Faithful Love and Treatment Center for Brunswick. For more information visit,
