BROOKFIELD, Wis. - Oct. 4, 2018 - PRLog -- As Domestic Violence Awareness Month is observed in October, a local Mary Kay unit of nearly 100 beauty consultants is seeking partners to sponsor care packages for a local family services center, and receive a Mary Kay gift certificate of equal value in return.

The Nancy Jo Baratti Unit, led by longtime Brookfield resident Nancy Jo Baratti, will donate a care package to the Milwaukee Women's Center for each $30 sponsorship received. The Milwaukee Women's Center provides services and treatment for women, men and children whose lives have been affected by domestic violence, addiction, mental health issues, homelessness and poverty.

The packages contain personal care items, an ongoing need for the residents living at the center's emergency shelter. Package sponsors will receive a $30 Mary Kay credit that can be used in the next 12 months. Sponsors do not have to be Mary Kay customers.

"Mary Kay Corporate provides nationwide support of women's shelters through the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation. We donate to the foundation, yet also want to help abused women who live locally," said Baratti, a Mary Kay representative for 39 years. "We believe that 'There, but for the grace of God, go I.' We want them to know their neighbors are thinking of them, and want to help."

The Milwaukee Women's Center served nearly 2,000 people in 2017. Its services include providing emergency shelter (https://communityadvocates.net/what-we-do/milwaukee-women...), counseling victims of domestic abuse (https://communityadvocates.net/what-we-do/milwaukee-women...), educating men on fatherhood and violence prevention, alcohol and drug abuse treatment, and much more. The center is a division of Community Advocates, which helps people with basic living needs.

Donors interested in sponsoring a care package can call or text Baratti at (262) 993-4849, or send her a message through www.marykay.com/nbaratti. The initiative runs through Dec. 15.

More information about the Milwaukee Women's Center, including how to seek help, is available at www.communityadvocates.net.what-we-do/milwaukee-womens-center.

"Survivors of domestic violence and homeless families are too often overlooked, but the members of the Mary Kay family are going out of their way to help these women and children when they need help the most," said Andi Elliott, Chief Executive Officer of Community Advocates. "We are so grateful for their support and look forward to a lasting partnership."

Mary Kay has taken the lead against domestic violence with its "Don't Look Away" program, a nationwide initiative spotlighting the alarming fact that one in four women in the U.S. will experience abuse in her lifetime.
