Bristol based sustainable designer Ria Burns raising funds to grow plants for natural dyeingRia Burns Knitwear is crowdfunding to make her naturally dyed British wool knitwear practice more sustainable by growing her own dye plants and upgrading equipment.
Ria Burns is a knitwear designer that specialises in naturally dyed British wool knitwear. She designs, dyes and makes sustainable, zero waste womenswear and accessories on vintage knitting machines from her Bristol home studio. Ria is raising funds to upscale her business and move into a proper studio so that she can work more efficiently, and to transform her ex-lawn into a working garden for growing her own dye plants. Having just completed a Masters in Textile Design at Bath Spa University, Ria's latest collection aims to champion the natural hues and qualities of British wool, incorporating vibrant pops of plant dyed colour. She aims to produce pieces that are the opposite of fast fashion, designed for longevity and made to be cherished, looked after and passed down. As a thank you for believing in the project, pledge rewards will be pieces from the latest collection with a special Crowdfunder discount of at least 25%. These include a striped boxy jumper dyed with rhubard root, a knitted scarf dip dyed by hand into organic indigo, or a unique pair of earrings made from naturally dyed yarn offcuts.
