Vliet Street Business Association to Launch Second Annual Fall Festival
Event will Feature Family-Friendly Activities, Vendors, Live Entertainment
By: West Vliet Street Business Association
After a successful inaugural event last year, the business association is preparing for an even bigger event this year.
During the upcoming Fall Festival, Vliet Street will be closed from Hawley to 53rd and will be filled with family friendly activities. The community is invited to shop, eat, enjoy live entertainment and more.
This year's Fall Festival will feature more than 60 local makers who will set up booths down the center of Vliet Street and offer handcrafted goods and artwork for sale, including soaps, jewelry, pottery, herbal tinctures, children's clothing, cards and more.
In addition, BembeMKE, featuring Cecilio Negron (De La Buena), Corey Coleman (King Solomon), and Julio Pabon (De La Buena), will host a community drum circle from 1 to 2 p.m. Other children's activities will include a Slime Station and a Lego build station hosted by Tosa Block Party.
The event will also include an array of delicious foods, including grilled, grass-fed brats and burgers by Kettle Range Meats; New Zealand-style savory pies by Drift; Brazilian fare by Tudo Sabor Brazil; Filipino Food by Meat on the Street; fried chicken by FoxFire; and locally-sourced goodies from Carrot Bomb Catering. For the sweet tooth, there will be an assortment of goodies from Baby Cakes, Cotton Mouth Cotton Candy, Dawn's Yummy Delights, Happy Dough Lucky, Lush Popcorn, Nothing Bundt Cakes, and Pete's Pops. Refreshments will be available from Wonder Bar, Vennture Brew Co., and Valentine Coffee.
Live music will be performed throughout the day. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., students from West End Conservatory will provide musical entertainment;
Other activities will include Tarot readings with Molly Snyder from On Milwaukee; henna by 2015 Big Henna Contest Winner Anita Reed of Hands of Henna; and live metalworking demos from Milwaukee Blacksmith from their 30-foot traveling workshop.
Also new in 2018, the Fall Fest will feature a Pumpkin Pie baking contest in honor of Patricia Brown, also known as Patty Cakes. Contestants can bake a pumpkin pie and drop it off at Urban Sense the morning of October 6 between the hours of 7 and 10 a.m. for judging, which will begin at 2 p.m. Winners will be announced directly after.
Fall Festival is proudly sponsored by Containers Up and Milwaukee Radio Group Stations (96.5WKLH, 102.9 The Hog, Energy 106.9, and 98.3 Jammin).
"Mark your calendars and be sure to join us on Vliet Street October 6 for a fun-filled day," said Kira Wendel, spokesperson for the Vliet Street Business Association.
