| Moldova to hold National Wine Days October 6-7, 2018By: Moldova Travel The festival is the second major event in as many months for this country, which is becoming a star in the world of wine, adventure, and cultural travel. In September, Moldova hosted the 3rd annual Global Conference on Wine Tourism. The conference made sustainability a priority—focusing on environmental best practices in tourism. This philosophy will continue during the National Wine days—the event will go green by using 100% recyclable tasting glasses designed to ensure the profile of the wines are not affected. Large and boutique wineries alike will display fortified, sparkling, red and white vintages ranging from dry to sweet in traditionally decorated booths. Between tastings, guests can try national foods such as grilled meats, fruits, and placinta (pie filled with cheese, vegetables or fruits) at stands provided by local cafés and restaurants. Additionally, 30 artists and bands will perform. Ten wine tours will take place including visits to Mimi Castle, Milestii Mici, Purcari, Chateau Vartley, Asconi and Cricova wineries. Oenophiles seeking more knowledge and education will find 16 master classes providing insight to wine and food pairings and wine-based cocktails among other subjects. For the first time, the National Wine Day extends geographically and shall simultaneously be celebrated in Moldova and Romania. On the first weekend of October 6-7, Wine of Moldova will be celebrated in the town of Snagov, Romania where over 20 winemakers, gathered under the country wine brand "Wine of Moldova. A Living Legend" will offer visitors hundreds of quality wines with Protected Geographical Indication for tasting. Similarly, a special stand will be set up in the center of the capital for winemakers from Romania - the guest country of this National Wine Day edition. By tasting the best Romanian wines, visitors will be able to make an imaginary journey through the most important wine-growing areas across the Prut river. The penultimate event of the year, Moldova's National Wine Day will be followed by the Wine Vernissage, a wine-tasting gala, which occurs in December.
