Grammy Nominated Music Icon And Author, Charles Wright Offers College Scholarships

LOS ANGELES - Sept. 24, 2018 - PRLog -- Charles Wright, Legendary soul and funk singer-songwriter ("Express Yourself") and author of "UP From Where We've Come", is showing his dedication to education by offering scholarships to deserving students in need of financial assistance.

"We're looking for students, who are interested in learning more about their history – knowing your history and your culture will guide you through your future.  Many students who are college-bound need a little bit of help financially to achieve their dreams.  We want to help students defray the cost of education, even when the student isn't academically or athletically gifted." Wright said.

Wright is also an author of a recent well-reviewed memoir "UP From Where We've Come" details the impact of White Supremacy and institutions that enforced segregation (Apartheid) in America during HIS LIFETIME and how he was able to overcome it through music.

The book is poignant and educational yet entertaining in its first-hand narrative through the eyes of a child from the perspective of a contemporary man ... and more importantly a contemporary black man who has gained fame and become a living legend and pioneer in the world of American Pop music.

Charles Wright is an award winning, guitarist, composer, recording artist and author and is best known as the leader of The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band and the composer of the often licensed and countlessly covered recording of "Express Yourself," which has been used in over 50 commercials and approximately 30 movies.  The Grammy-nominated song has enjoyed a long and lucrative life for Charles Wright; sampled by many rap artists (including N.W.A); utilized in dozens of commercials; used in many movies (including "Mr. & Mrs. Smith"); and has been used by the PGA, the Summer Olympics and the NBA.
