WASHINGTON - Sept. 20, 2018 - PRLog -- As part of an ongoing commitment to supporting the health and wellness of local and global communities, Dr. Clayton Lawrence, CEO and President of Lawrence Executive Alliance of Professionals, LLC, and founder of Leap Foundation DC, participated in the Navy-Air Force Half Marathon Sunday, Sept. 17. It was a remarkable achievement for Dr. Lawrence, who celebrated his 101st marathon, but also for his running mate, Foundation participant Rashard Barnes. The youth mentee was invited by Dr. Lawrence to join him at mile five and finish the race with him – the longest distance (8 miles) the aspiring pro-basketball player has ever completed.

"I am incredibly proud of Rashard's commitment to physical fitness and commend him for crossing the finish line with me at this worthy event," Dr. Lawrence said.

The annual event, hosted by The Naval Support Activity Washington (NSAW) Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR) at Joint Base Anacostia – Bolling (JBAB), was expecting 10,000 to 12,000 runners who started the course at the Washington Monument, 2 15th St.

Open to all military and civilian runners, the NSAW MWR started the Navy 5-miler in 2004 in celebration of the U.S. Navy's birthday. According to navyhalf.com, the event has since transitioned to a Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Morale, Welfare and Recreation as a result of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) initiative. The BRAC initiative merged the Navy's MWR with the Air Force's Services Division on Anacostia Naval Annex and Bolling Air Force Base, respectively. Its mission is to "provide quality support and recreational services that contribute to the retention, readiness, mental, physical and emotional well-being of our active duty personnel and Department of Defense employees."

The mission of MWR at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling to "foster and support high productivity for our Navy-Air Force audience through mental and physical fitness, personal growth, a sense of community, positive values and family well-being" is in direct alignment with the LEAP mission to "provide competent and caring medical professionals with comprehensive healthcare solutions" and that of its nonprofit organization that provides "educational and training opportunities to meet the aspirations of the underserved citizens of the District of Columbia."

Dr. Lawrence believes that leadership is by example. He served for nine years in the Army after attending the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor. He went on to deliver care to members of the Armed Forces both in the United States and abroad before he formed LEAP LLC after recognizing a need for a medical staffing company that would provide excellent healthcare for active duty, veteran and civilian patients. In 2009, he founded nonprofit organization LEAP Foundation DC, where he continues to educate and give back to the community.

"I enjoy working with students and would value the opportunity to share my knowledge, passion and excitement for learning with younger generations and as generously as my mentors did during my professional development," he said.

Through collaborations with groups that encourage physical activity and educational development, Dr. Lawrence has been providing a voice for the disadvantaged and "bridging the gap between hope and achievement" for the underserved.

The Navy-Air Force Half Marathon was the doctor's 101st marathon since he began training as an endurance athlete in 2011. He has proudly supported the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Foundation, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, along with countless other incredible causes through his dedication to being an athlete and marathoner.

"I have been fortunate to be able to nurture my passions throughout life, such as my dedication to the medical field, the power of education, the importance of physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices, serving the country and supporting our troops," he said. "I have been able to nurture those passions in a purposeful and powerful way. I'm pleased to participate in support of the soldiers through this event."

Driven by a mentality of servant leadership, Lawrence Executive Alliance of Professionals (LEAP), LLC, has been providing superior quality healthcare for active duty, veteran and civilian patients since 2007. Dr. Clayton Lawrence, a decorated and respected veteran of the United States Army, saw the need for a company that would operate with a new philosophy to bring forth excellence in the healthcare industry. Staffing medical facilities across the country with physicians, health educators, medical examiners and more, LEAP has been recognized with several awards of excellence and is certified by the Small Business Administration. Winning the Washington Business Journal Minority Business Leader Award for 2014 was just the beginning of much-deserved recognition for positive changes in the District of Columbia and across the nation. Dr. Lawrence and LEAP, LLC, were selected as the 2015 Washington, D.C., Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Person of the Year. In 2016, Dr. Lawrence was honored when he was entered into The Congressional Record for his work in business and civic leadership throughout the greater Washington, D.C., region and abroad. Later that year, he received a White House Letter of Commendation from President Barack Obama for his work with LEAP, LLC.  LEAP, LLC's nonprofit partner organization, LEAP Foundation DC, has been building bridges between hope and achievement in the District of Columbia and the surrounding communities since 2009. The group works to address the unmet social and health needs of the area's people and, among other accolades, was recognized in 2014 with the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit Award.
