Sober Living Home Plans to Expand Recovery Resources
A nonprofit that operates a women's sober living home plans to offer more services.
The nonprofit Beyond the Brink that oversees the sober living home hopes to open a home for men and a transitional house for men and women in the near future. It is also in the process of becoming approved by the state to offer certified peer recovery specialist training.
Currently, clients are assisted by Beyond the Brink officials to develop a personal recovery plan. They are also expected to be employed or enrolled in school and attend support group meetings.
The sober living home also assists women with finding public housing.
This month, Beyond the Brink is co-sponsoring an event called Walk for Recovery to raise awareness about addiction recovery and to spearhead fundraising efforts.
According to the Minnesota Department of Health, approximately 700 drug overdose deaths occurred in the state in 2017. Opioids, such as fentanyl, contributed to a majority of fatalities. In comparison, heroin deaths have declined.
