Follow on Google News | Author Reynald Altema Releases New Book, The VoiceBorn in Haiti, Reynald Altema immigrated to the US at age 16 and has been living here since. For the past 15 years, he has been doing volunteer work in the Caribbean, Central America, and even Africa. Altema published The Boy by the Sea four years ago. His second novel breaks new ground and veers into an ambitious blending of genres by linking prose and poetry. Altema's release, The Voice, follows a poet who is controlled by a Voice and runs away from his family and friends, becoming homeless. After being brought to the ER, he is discovered by his high school sweetheart, who is now married and a nurse. Her younger sister helps him wrestle the Voice's control over his mind. Along the way, he describes his tribulations in vivid poems. Early reviews label the book as a good read that opens the readers' eyes to a world in which most of us do not live. About his book, Altema says, "When I decided to write this novel, I intended to penetrate the mind of an unusual character, creative, but sanity-challenged."
