"The high concentration of these products means that less packaging, energy and water is used, making the range a more sustainable choice to extend the life of your cashmere wardrobe." Sustainability is a key focus for N.Peal, explains Holdsworth: "From using only cashmere sourced from sustainable Mongolian herders, to investigating natural plant dyes and reducing the use of plastic across our business, at N.Peal we are determined to deliver long-term sustainability solutions that encourage real change within the luxury sector." The news comes only months after the opening of N.Peal's first US store, located on Madison Avenue, New York City and not far from The Laundress store in Lower Manhattan. The collaboration came about from a chance introduction between Holdsworth and The Laundress co-founders Gwen Whiting and Lindsey Boyd. Whiting and Boyd created the brand after successful careers in the luxury sector, having spotted a gap in the market for effective, non-toxic cleaning products. Established as a quintessentially London brand, with the flagship Burlington Arcade store the brand's home since 1936, N.Peal founder Nat Peal made regular visits to the USA when establishing the N.Peal name. He was known for taking a hotel suite on the East Coast and advertising his cashmere clothing in local newspapers. The New York World Telegram hailed the arrival of the original Mr Peal in 1956 as "England's King of Cashmere", and he was photographed carrying a soft white polo neck jumper for Marilyn Monroe. Other famous Hollywood figures were soon sporting the iconic cashmere knits, including Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant and Ava Gardner. The N.Peal brand continues to grow, with the launch of a US website and further locations being considered in New York's fashionable Soho district, as well as additional European stores in Paris and Munich.
