SHIP BOTTOM, N.J. - Sept. 17, 2018 - PRLog -- The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to celebrate fall during Columbus Day Weekend October 5th through the 8th and take advantage of the Long Beach Island Region's best time of year. Whether it is on the beach, bay or the pines there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy the beauty of the fall season. Enjoy new, returning and time tested events throughout the weekend, and take in your favorite dining, shopping and activities.  LBI FLY 4th Annual International Kite Festival featuring colorful kites, flying giant inflatables and sport kiting show. Events are free and ignite the imagination with LBI as the perfect backdrop. Beginning Friday October 6, afternoon kite flying displays and demos will be taking place between 9th and 11th Street beaches in Ship Bottom 1-3pm. Saturday in Ship Bottom brings professional kite show and inflatable kite displays from 10-4pm 6 to 16th Street Beaches. 10-4pm brings Fly your own, Sport Kites and 11am kids candy drop taking place at 11th Street Beaches. Also on the schedule at various beaches are Buggy Kites, Kite Making and Memorial Fly, please check www.lbifly.com for full listing. There you will also see Sunday 10-4 events at Ship Bottom beach locations, with a 630 to 830pm Night Fly Show at Barnegat Lighthouse State Park and schedule for Monday fly taking place at Ship Bottom beaches as well.

Celebrate a day on the bay while learning about the ecosystem during the first LBT Oyster Shellabration will be held from Saturday October 6 from 1 to 6pm at Bayview Park on Long Beach Blvd. Local oyster farmers will be on site along with local restaurants serving up oysters, beer, wine, food for purchase. Oyster Shucking demonstrations, music,  and games for all to enjoy. Sunday, October 7 brings the Commemorative 18th Mile Run back for its 46th year. This popular run begins in Holgate at 1030am and run north across the island ending in Barnegat Light State Park. St Francis Center and Jewish Community Center of LBI continue to honor the memory of the 11 Israeli Olympic athletes that were slain in 1972 and the victims of 9/11. Buses provided for registered runners leave from the St Francis Community Center beginning at 8am and continues to run to the finish line which closes at 215pm. Enhance the weekend with other activities surrounding special events including Fantasy Island Amusement Park's new extended hours means park and arcade are open Friday through Monday.
