Smith communities host free support for caregivers of family, friends who have Alzheimer's, dementia

CHICAGO - Sept. 17, 2018 - PRLog -- Southwest Chicago and suburban families and caregivers of older adults living with Alzheimer's disease or dementia are invited to free support groups either Oct. 2 at Smith Village in Chicago's Beverly neighborhood or Oct. 4 at Smith Crossing in Orland Park. Both begin at 6:30 p.m.

    The hour-long gatherings at both life plan communities will be open to questions and comments from the assembled group about the various stages of cognitive loss. After the meetings, light refreshments will be served.

    On Tuesday, Oct. 2, social service director of long-term care Diane Morgan will welcome guest Dr. Michael Thomas, a former Smith Village medical director. He will speak on ageing and answer questions about dementia. The meeting will be at Smith Village, 2320 W. 113th Place in Chicago.     Thursday, Oct. 4, Smith Crossing's social service director Amy Majcina and life enrichment director Dana Mahler will be having an open forum discussion about the different stages of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
