By: Chosen, Inc. Waukesha, Wis. – Chosen, Inc. ("Chosen"), a non-profit ministry dedicated to educating about and supporting foster and adoptive parenting, will hold its first-ever gala Nov. 9 to celebrate families who are providing children safe, loving homes via these unique family-building journeys. Chosen is dedicated to educating the public about the impact of adoption and fostering and providing spiritual, material, and emotional support to families who have chosen these oft-misunderstood paths. The organization operates The Family Closet in Waukesha, where these families can obtain donated clothing and other needed children's items, free of charge. Chosen shares resource referrals to other organizations and professionals to help meet the needs of adoptive and foster families. Its long-term goals include opening a multi-family foster community to care for children in need of a loving home. "Open Hearts, Open Homes: A Celebration of Foster and Adoptive Families" will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Milwaukee West, 10499 W. Innovation Drive, Wauwatosa. The evening promises to be a heartwarming gala filled with stories of love, encouragement and the need to keep "Fostering Forever Families." The event will feature keynote speakers, Emily and Chris Norton. Chris has been spotlighted in national media for his inspirational story of overcoming a spinal cord injury suffered while playing college football. He and Emily, foster parents to five children, will center their message on "The Power to Stand" about perseverance, faith, overcoming obstacles and helping children. "We are thrilled to announce our inaugural gala, where participants can hear from families we work with, our partners that make a difference, and the community impact of Chosen in meeting the needs of foster and adoptive families," said Karen Schlindwein, Executive Director of Chosen. Schlindwein, her husband, Tom, and Chris Norton are all alumni of Luther College. The Nov. 9 cocktail attire event includes dinner, live and silent auctions, reverse bingo and many surprises.
