FORT MYERS, Fla. - Oct. 18, 2018 - PRLog -- Leaders in health care will converge in Southwest Florida for an exclusive eight-month Leadership University program beginning December 2018.

Presented by Gulf Coast Village, Volunteers of America and LindaShell.com, Leadership University is a nationally proven program for long-term care, acute and clinical health professionals. The program features six days of powerful teaching, interactive activities, discussions, self-exploration, guest speakers and goal setting designed to develop empowered, engaged health care professionals.

Leadership University will be led by Dr. Linda Shell, MA, RN, a nationally recognized expert and keynote speaker in the field of aging services. Principal and partner of LindaShell.Com, Shell has more than 25 years of experience in acute, post-acute, and long-term care, serving in the roles of staff nurse, educator, director of nursing, quality manager, consultant and organizational development. Her passion for changing the world of long-term care has led her in providing education, leadership development and consultation to nonprofit and for-profit senior care organizations across the country.

"As the health care industry continues to transform, we need leaders who will not only react to the changing times, but who are also fully equipped to challenge the status quo and serve as the impetus behind continued positive growth," Shell said. "With hundreds of successful graduates throughout the nation, Leadership University presents a hands-on education process with relevant content to develop and inspire leaders to enhance the future of health care."

The Pew Research Center indicates that more than 10,000 baby boomers turn 65 each day, which results in a growing need for senior health care services.

"The senior population in our region is in a growth pattern, and as the need for senior health care services rises, so does the need for skilled health care leaders," said Kevin Ahmadi, executive director of Gulf Coast Village. "This leadership development experience provides an opportunity for current and emerging health care leaders to engage in the communal effort to support the growth and future of our health care industry right here in Southwest Florida."

The Leadership University program includes four sessions offered on select dates in 2018 and 2019:

·         Session 1: Exploration of Leadership DNA and Resilience – Dec. 4-5, 2018

·         Session 2: Understanding Emotional Intelligence and Critical Thinking – Feb. 13, 2019

·         Session 3: Building Teams, Engaging Employees, Enhancing Communication and Resolving Conflict – May 8, 2019
