FORT WORTH, Texas
- Sept. 12, 2018
-- Texas was the location of the 40th National Convention of the Society of Military Widows in September 2018. Catherine McGraw, President of SMW said the group that attended were enthusiastic about the program and the Embassy Suites hotel staff made them feel welcome and comfortable.
The Convention was an opportunity for the widows whose husbands had served in various wars and conflicts since World War 2 to meet and share their experiences. Some deployments led to wives and children living on base here or in Europe or Asia.
Copies of the Society's anthology, "Military Wives and Widows Tell Their Stories", to which a number of members had contributed, were sold at the Convention and are still available at Amazon.com as a fund-raiser for the Society's programs.
The program included a tour of the Stockyards, visits to the Fort Worth base, and a small military museum that was opened just for this group. Added to that the opportunity to shop, enjoy lunches and dinners together and a memorial service made for a great time. Several of the women got up and had their pictures taken on the Longhorn steers, said Catherine McGraw.
Plans are already being made for the 2019 Convention that will be held in Colorado Springs, CO, in October 14 -18.http://ritabermanwriter.com
