GURGAON, India - Sept. 12, 2018 - PRLog -- Heart is an extremely sensitive organ that performs the function of pumping blood throughout the body with the help of various blood channels that include veins arteries and blood vessels. The heart along with all these blood channels is responsible for the flow of oxygenated blood from the lungs to various different parts of the body and also carries deoxygenated blood from these different body parts back to the lungs where it is again loaded with oxygen. This cycle continues as long as a person is alive and is very important for our survival. Human heart has four valves and these are responsible for the flow of blood in one direction. The valves play a very important role in the continuous circulation of blood by preventing its backward flow.

Since the heart is very sensitive it is vulnerable to a large number of problems that may either be hereditary or developed later in life due to unhealthy Lifestyle practices. One such problem is aortic valve stenosis. The problem is caused by the excessive accumulation of the various impurities present in the blood on the walls of the valve, that results in blockage and prevents the free flow of blood. These impurities are known as plaque and major consist of unwanted fat, cholesterol and salt particles which are extremely harmful for the heart.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation or transcatheter aortic valve replacement, as the name suggests, involves the use of a catheter which is a narrow tube like instrument fixed with a balloon on one end. The new artificially created valve is placed inside this catheter. The surgical procedure is very simple. The patient is first made unconscious by the use of general anaesthesia and this is followed by a making a very small incision near the groin or on the side of the chest. Instead of the incision, 2 to 4 small holes can also be made. The catheter is passed inside the patients body via this incision. The whole procedure is carefully monitored with the help of a microscopic camera that is introduced inside the patient's body. The camera generates live pictures on a screen which help to determine the exact position of the damage valve and help in placing the new valve very precisely and accurately. The catheter is then moved slowly towards the affected valve and once it is in position, the balloon is inflated to push the walls of the damaged valve in order to pave way for the placement of new valve. After the procedure the patient is to be kept under observation for sometime and is then free to go. The patient may also be prescribed certain medications to be taken for avoiding infections and speeding up the recovery procedure. The patient should abstain from smoking and drinking as these may drastically affect his health. Although exercising is very important but the patient should refrain from doing rigorous exercises for some days.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation and Transcatheter aortic valve replacement are not as popular as open heart surgery as these procedures are quite new but they are gaining popularity at a very high pace owing to the fact that the traditional open heart surgery involves very large incisions that tend to develop infections if not taken care of properly. The recovery period in case of an open heart surgery is also very long and the patient has to remain bedridden for quite a long time. Open heart surgery is also involve a lot of blood loss due to which these are not considered to be suitable for patients suffering from anaemia, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation or transcatheter aortic valve replacement are minimally invasive medical procedures used for the treatment of aortic stenosis. The problem has become very common nowadays due to unhealthy Lifestyle practices and if left untreated can prove to be very fatal. The surgical procedure is carried with the help of catheter which is introduced inside the patient's body. TAVI/TAVR Surgery in India has gained immense popularity especially in the last decade due to its very high success rate and shorter recovery period. Both, transcatheter aortic valve implantation and transcatheter aortic valve replacement target the affected valve. The catheter used during the procedure is fitted with a balloon. These are the best substitute for open heart surgeries which are quiet complicated and expensive. The procedure is available in all the leading hospitals of India including HVT Hospital. The hospital brings to your service a team of some of the leading cardiovascular surgeon in India who have been acknowledged worldwide for deficiency.
