ONTARIO, Calif. - Sept. 8, 2018 - PRLog -- At the Inaugural Ontario Festival of the Arts, the Southland Symphony Orchestra will perform Prokofieff's beloved "Peter and the Wolf", and Saint-Saens "Carnival of the Animals". Both selections will be narrated by Rich Capparela of KUSC FM radio. Music Director & Conductor Dr. Sylvia Lee Mann is excited about the event, and has been part of the arts festival organizing committee.

We especially invite you to the SSO 2pm performance of "Peter and the Wolf" and "Carnival of the Animals". KUSC's Rich Capparela will be narrating both pieces, and we are delighted to welcome piano soloists Mary Au and Wan-Chin Chang performing the amazing dual piano solos in "Carnival of the Animals".

Mark your calendar for September 15, 2018 from 11 AM to 6 PM when the City of Ontario partners with Chaffey Community Museum of Art (CCMA) to put on the inaugural Ontario Festival of the Arts in the Arts District (the area between and around the Ontario Museum of History & Art and CCMA).

The Ontario Festival of the Arts will celebrate visual and performing arts with artist booths, art demonstrations and instruction, maker machines, display of historical artifacts and ephemera, mini walking tour of Arts District historic buildings, and live musical performances. You will not want to miss this event!

This one-day event will feature a full range of activities, performances and classes for all to enjoy!

Local and regional artists will create an art marketplace to display and sell their works of art in categories of functional, decorative and visual art.

City of Ontario's Community Life & Culture Agency will present art-making demonstrations and hands-on instruction for adults in copper enameling, ceramics, painting and drawing.

Ontario Planning Department will display entries from the 2018 Historic Preservation photography contest.

Ontario City Library's Robert E. Ellingwood Model Colony History Room will offer a display of historical artifacts and ephemera.

Ontario Heritage, the community historical society, will provide a mini-walking tour of historic buildings in the Arts District area and depict historical characters, including Ontario's founder George Chaffey.

Southland Symphony Orchestra will perform Prokofieff's Peter and the Wolf, and Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals, narrated by Rich Capparela of KUSC FM radio, at 2 pm.

Tongva Indian dancers will perform. The Tongva Indians are the region's Native Americans.

Other musical performances will be offered by a barbershop chorus, Chaffey College jazz band and a capella singers, and a mariachi trio.

Other Festival activities will include food trucks, food vendors and a craft beer and wine garden.

About the Southland Symphony Orchestra:

The Southland Symphony presented its first concert in Ontario on Sunday, December 11, 2011. The orchestra's founder and director, Dr. Sylvia Lee Mann, who had recently relocated to the area, saw a need and an opportunity to bring symphonic music to the larger Ontario Community, a community which was already embracing arts and culture. Since that first concert, we have presented more than 30 free, full-orchestra concerts for this community. We have presented internationally renowned musicians from all over the globe, performing music of the greatest composers of history, and music of great composers still living today.The Southland Symphony is a non-profit organization, and needs your support to continue presenting these world-class qualirty concerts!
