HEMET, Calif. - Sept. 6, 2018 - PRLog -- In 2015, the average age of all Hemet, CA residents was 38.6, while that might not exactly be retirement age for most folks the area has been known for a great place to retire and has many different retirement communities. But things change.

Last month, Skaters and Pro Scooter riders showed up in large numbers to support a proposal for a new skate park in Hemet. Proposed over two years ago the plans for a community skatepark are catching wind with the vision and drive of local residents, community leaders and local business owners, it looks like it might be rolling out after all.

Encouraging the group to offer their vision and ideas for the new park was councilwoman Bonnie Wright who originally spearheaded talks which dated back over two decades.  She stated "...very hopeful this may actually happen."

"This is your park," said Councilwoman Wright, "...it is not the City Council members' park. It's your park." Wright added.

The new plans for the park means a lot to Pro Scooter rider Stephen Ellefson, the owner of Lufa Pro Scooters (http://lufaproscooters.com) which sells pro scooters parts & accessories in the City of Hemet. Ellefson is a longtime resident of Hemet and a rider himself. "It would make it easier for me and the people I ride with to practice and ride", said Ellefson. "It will be a great thing for this community." he added. "All of us are excited to see where this goes and be a part of the initial plan and design.".

As a Hemet resident, local business owner and Pro Scooter rider himself, Ellefson is excited and appreciative to be a part of what could be most advantageous for the communities youth and is so close to his heart and business.

The group rallied around one another sharing ideas and collaborating with each other as to where the park could be built, what it might look like initially and going forward both in its design, structures ie; ramps, loops and grinds and overall wants of skaters.

The park may end up being a 12,000 to 15,000 square feet skate park in the Hemet city limits. Location is currently to be determined, but likely for one of the larger parks in the area which can provide a vast amount space and easy accessibility for community.

According to Hemet Public Works Director Kris Jensen, a preferred park has been chosen, Gibbell Park, at Florida Avenue and Kirby Street stands out due to its size and location. Jensen noted that Gibbell makes the most sense because of its size and location.

Security, hours of operation and details of park rules will be assessed and developed at a later time as the project moves forward.
