BET Soul salutes "Black Excellence" with "Woke Wednesday" Program Block

LOS ANGELES - Sept. 5, 2018 - PRLog -- The news from BET Networks has been dominated by the recent departure of longtime Chief Executive Debra Lee, yet one arm of the BET media empire continues to focus on feeding viewers music that matters. BET Soul, the 24 Hour video arm of BET, presents viewers each week with "conscious" content under the banner "Woke Wednesday" at 11AM Eastern. The one hour block of music videos repeats each evening at 7PM and once again at 3AM the following morning.

Hip Hop artist $tarbound who launches from Las Vegas, NV, will be featured in the "Woke Wednesday"  block on September 5 with the inspirational video for his song "Black Excellence". The clip was initially inspired by the anthem protests led by NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The clip features elementary school students from Harvest Preparatory School in $tarbound's hometown of Minneapolis, MN. $tarbound has been motivating school kids with performances and online via the Verizon Innovative Learning program. Last year, R&B Love King Raheem DeVaughn's conscious collective The CrossRhodes was featured on "Woke Wednesday". The duo consisting of DeVaughn and wordsmith Wes Felton had their politically charged video "America" programmed. The clip depicts the bleak landscape of contemporary urban America and poses the question "What is America?" The activist energy displayed by members of the #BlackLivesMatter movement is credited with inspiring the duo to record again after a ten plus year hiatus.
