An alcohol and drug abuse counselor specializes in providing counseling and support to individuals and families experiencing problems with substance use or dependence. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates a high growth rate for both occupations with a salary range of $39,000 to $65,680 for the mental health counselor field (https://www.bls.gov/oes/2016/may/oes211014.htm) and a salary range of $39,600 to $73,050 for a drug and alcohol counselor (https://www.bls.gov/oes/2016/may/oes211011.htm).
