True North Recovery Services is now contracted with Cigna

ENCINITAS, Calif. - Sept. 4, 2018 - PRLog -- Substance use disorders are affecting Americans in record numbers.  With a current opioid crisis and the ongoing problems with alcohol dependency as well as other drugs, there is a shortage of providers who are established enough, or good enough, to be paneled with insurers.

True North Recovery Services is a clinician owned and operated day treatment and intensive outpatient treatment provider located in Encinitas, CA.  We opened in 2011 due to community requests of our founders, Kansas Cafferty, LMFT and Valeh Karimkhani, DO.  Since that time several other programs have opened in the North San Diego Area but none of them accept HMO insurance policies, and often have very high out of network deductibles that have to be paid before patients can get help with drug and alcohol problems.  Considering this problem has been the focus of national attention due to the severity of the opioid epidemic, True North has elected to increase its accessibility to a much broader cross section of the community,

Most people who seek help for a substance use disorder are very limited in their choices to access support unless they can pay privately for all or at least a substantial part of their treatment.  This commitment on the part of True North couldn't come at a more urgent time.

This contract came as a result of True North's hard work with first responders.  True North began working with first responders 2 years ago due to having a counselor, on staff who had a former career as a narcotics officer, a director who was trained as an EMT, a medical director who has done three tours of duty in the middle east to date, and several providers with extensive training in post-traumatic stress disorder treatment.  As a result, we were approached by Cigna and by several law enforcement agencies and fire departments with requests that we enter into insurance networks so that their officers, agents, and fire fighters could access our specialized services.

True North is continuing to apply to be on pertinent insurance panels.  While some are closed to any provider, we are committed to continue to apply pressure for them to open their panels to us so that we can continue in our mission of providing life saving treatment to both first responders, and to the general public.
