SIMA 2019 Celebrates Filmmaking for Social Change
By: SIMA Studios
Known for bridging the global gap between filmmakers and their audiences and encouraging thoughtful action, the annual SIMA Awards honor the work of content creators who are pushing the boundaries of social and political storytelling.
Through the years, SIMA's work at the intersection of film and activism has brought an international spotlight to some of the world's most pressing social issues through documentary filmmaking with previous winners including: Zaradasht Ahmed's NOWHERE TO HIDE, following Iraqi nurse Nori Sharif as American troops depart and ISIS advances on Jalawla, Erik Ljung's THE BLOOD IS AT THE DOORSTEP delivers an urgent report on police brutality in the aftermath of Dontre Hamilton's death, and Craig Leeson's A PLASTIC OCEAN, uncovering alarming truths about plastic pollution and the workable solutions at our fingertips.
"It is the courage and creativity of artists and storytellers that allow us to define our time and to judge on which side of history we stand. We can't wait to witness and award the most powerful works this year." -Daniela Kon, Executive Director, Founder SIMA
