MIAMI - Sept. 4, 2018 - PRLog -- The intelligent transportation system (ITS) industry has it's share of shady characters promoting knowingly false information with hopes that stakeholders will buy into their coalition building propaganda and scare tactic strategies.  They send emails containing exaggerated dangers and slanted interpretations of the new law.

Distributors competing against GovComm are promoting false information to departments of transportation, municipalities, user funded transportation agencies, contractors and engineers to destabilize the ITS equipment market.  It's been reported that these distributors are also recruiting stakeholders friendly to their cause to forward and echo the false claims. Many communications include postings from a blog site with a biased interpretation of the Senator John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019.

GovComm's competition is intimidated by our high availability, excellent quality and superb customer service. They are trying to damage our reputation with hopes that others won't find us appealing.

Recognizing the uncertain political climate, GovComm has been preparing for today's trade wars, tariffs and cyber security threats by gearing-up to manufacture in-house.  We completed our internal ISO 9001 audit, we're preparing for and anticipating a successful external audit, we've joined the South Florida Manufacturers Association and we've launched a cyber-security incubator in our laboratory.  GovComm expects to begin manufacturing at our new facility in Ft Lauderdale during the current fiscal year.

Like many in our industry, GovComm utilizes contract manufacturers for hardware and we internally develop our own applications, software and firmware that manages our equipment.  We use several contract manufacturers, none of which are related.  Some GovComm ITS equipment may be affected by The Act, but there is no effect on a majority of GovComm ITS equipment and there is also a possibility of a trade war settlement, rendering the issue moot.

Some implications of the new law is as follows:

1.     The new law prohibits procurement of video surveillance products for federal and federally funded projects from specific manufacturers (including OEM)

2.     The new law does not go into effect for a year, maybe two years and possibly not at all if a trade deal is reached between the United States and China

3.     There is no requirement to remove existing equipment

GovComm has been in touch with several state departments of transportation, and there has been no decision how to proceed with the new law, if, how and when it applies.  Departments of transportation, municipalities, user funded transportation agencies and contractors continue to order ITS equipment from GovComm because they realize that the source of the false information derives from competitors attempting to prey on the misinformed.
