L.A. artist Charisse Abellana to kick off world-wide debut at Paris show

LOS ANGELES - Sept. 3, 2018 - PRLog -- LA-based artist Charisse Abellana (http://charisseabellana.com) will present Dark Tea & Dark Romance in Paris at the Bateau Daphne Gallery. The opening reception takes place Sept. 7 at the gallery.

"It's so perfect that I'm showing this off in Paris -- the city of love," said Charisse.

Dark Tea & Dark Romance showcases a scene with a teacup, a shiny tea kettle, a single rose in a jar, and a motif of flowers on the tablecloth. Romantic colors are expressed with Charisse's lush, bold brush strokes and balanced by cool, somber tones around the scene.

"She is very expressive and has her own signature," said Graciela Nardi, founder and director of the Latino Art Museum (https://www.latinoartmuseum.com) in Pomona, Calif.

Charisse is self-taught and privately trained and, over the last two years, has blossomed onto the LA arts scene with vibrant, emotional still-life portraits.

"Using a palette knife is not easy, but her technique is very strong, and I like how femininity reflects in her work," said Dulce Stein, chief curator at the Neutra Gallery and Museum in LA (http://neutra.org/the-neutra-museum/).

The painting is part of a series titled Tea with Van Gogh. Frequently working with a palette knife, Charisse evokes the post-impressionist's powerful brush strokes. She blends the romance of teacups and pink rose petals with dark tones in the background to infuse tension into this scene of warmth and pleasure.

"Love is diverse, full of mixed emotions," Charisse said.

Charisse paints primarily with a palette knife, layering wet hues over each other on the canvas to bring out the most emotional tones for each scene.

Paris, Paris," said Charisse, "I see you as love, I see you as the ultimate romance! So here and now, I dedicate this painting, "Dark Tea and Romance" to you."

Dark Tea & Dark Romance will be on display from Sept. 4 - 10 at Bateau Daphne, 11 Quai de Montebello, 75005 Notre Dame in Paris.
