Follow on Google News | Zonta Club of Washington, D.C. & The Zonta Club of Washington Foundation Award $69,000 in ScholarshThe Club awarded $44,000 through its medical and nursing scholarship programs established by benefactors Edith SeVille Coale, MD and Virginia Longest, respectively. The Edith SeVille Coale, MD scholarship program was supplemented by a generous gift to the Foundation from Dr. Nancy Crotty, a former medical scholarship recipient. Edith SeVille Coale, MD Scholarships were awarded to six women attending medical schools at Georgetown University School of Medicine, The George Washington University School of Medicine & Sciences, Howard University College of Medicine, and John Hopkins University School of Medicine. The Virginia Longest Nursing Scholarship was awarded to Lisa Williams, Doctor of Philosophy student at The Catholic University of America, School of Nursing. The Club and Foundation awarded $25,000 through its undergraduate scholarship program to the following nine recipients: - Madison Alvarez, Foreign Service major at Georgetown University - Emma Anderson, International Affairs major student at George Washington University - Tatiana Garrison, Biology major student at Howard University, past recipient - Emily Kresse, International Relations major at American University, past recipient - Paula Martinez, Art major student at American University, past recipient - Thi Nguyen, Art major student at Howard University, past recipient - Renee Whitely, Architecture major student at Howard University - Tamea Williams, Health Science major student at Howard University - Jemiah Williams, Communications major student at Howard University Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit, honors/community service and financial need. The Zonta Club of Washington, D.C. is a member club of Zonta International, founded in Buffalo, NY in 1919, which is a leading global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. The Washington, D.C. Club has been serving women in the District of Columbia since it was formed in 1922. The Zonta Club of Washington Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, was formed in 1981 to carry out the charitable objectives of the Club.
