LOS ANGELES - Aug. 29, 2018 - PRLog -- The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Sporting Club Verdugos as a new member starting with the 2018 Fall Season.

Based in Glendale (Calif.), SC Verdugos begins UPSL League One play in the Western Conference, and is finalizing its venue options in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards.

United Premier Soccer League Western Conference Operations Manager Gary Brunner said, "UPSL League One is a great opportunity for Pro Development clubs to get in the league and test themselves. We really think it's going to take off, and welcome Sporting Club Verdugos to the UPSL League One."

High school teammates at La Canada (Calif.)'s St. Francis School, Carlos Duarte and Nick Posthuma are the owners and operators of Sporting Club Verdugos.

Duarte, 28, went on to play at Glendale (Calif.) CC before earning degrees from both University of San Diego and University Southern California and going on to a career as a practicing psychotherapist.

Posthuma, 28, earned a full scholarship and played four years at CS Fullerton (NCAA). He now is a business owner and currently serves as Assistant General Manager for SC Verdugos.

Sporting Club Verdugos General Manager Carlos Duarte said, "We have a really strong group of players and a lot of the guys on the team are guys we've been playing with or against since high school, and we've managed to get everybody together to form a team. I think we have a lot of quality and we're ready to compete at a high level."

In July, the UPSL announced the integration of the California Champions League as part of its new UPSL League One third tier competition. Founded in 2014, California Champions League currently features teams in Calabasas (Calif.), Thousand Oaks, Van Nuys and Woodland Hills.

Owned and operated by Oliquer Olivar, UPSL League One California Champions Division's 2018 Summer Season began in July 1 and will continue through a four-team playoff in November. The winner is eligible for promotion to the UPSL Championship Division for the 2019 Spring Season.

UPSL Western Conference California Champions Division Manager Oliquer Olivar said, "I think it's great and I'm excited that SC Verdugos are taking the next step. I'm looking forward to working with the ownership of SC Verdugos and helping the club reach its goals."

The new UPSL League One California Champions Division will host many of the UPSL Pro Premier and UPSL Championship reserve teams. New clubs also are expected to join in the near future, with a number of others within the marketplace expressing interest.

The UPSL League One California Champions winner also will receive a cash prize in addition to a promotion sponsorship.
