I Grow Chicago to Host Third Annual Peace Fest
Nonprofit's Largest Community Event of the Year is Sponsored by Strides for Peace
By: I Grow Chicago
The event aims to celebrate the Englewood neighborhood while also inviting all Chicago communities to visit the neighborhood and commit to peace in Chicago.
Peace Fest will feature over 30 social service organizations, arts, games, music and food along with a basketball tournament on the recently opened Healing Justice Court.
"The goal of Peace Fest is to not only shine a light on the Englewood neighborhood, but to bring communities together," said I Grow Chicago Executive Director, Zelda Mayer. "Even though the Englewood neighborhood has been plagued with violence, many in our community want peace, and for that to be possible, we need all of Chicago involved. This event gives us the ability to celebrate peace with all communities."
"We are thrilled to support Peace Fest which embodies what happens when you focus on what brings people together, not what drives them apart," said Strides for Peace Director, Mary Stonor Saunders. "I Grow Chicago is one of the most community-driven organizations I know, where those most impacted by gun violence are a real part of the solution. I think the Peace Fest is a celebration of that spirit."
Peace Fest will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on September 1 at 6402 S. Honore Street. The event is open to the public and all ages. Families are welcome.
