By: United Premier Soccer League
The newly-formed UPSL Masters Division will initiate friendlies in preparation for the UPSL's upcoming 2018 Fall Season.
United Premier Soccer League National Director Paul Lapointe said, "Having a Masters Division in the UPSL is going to grow the game even further as Masters leagues across the country begin to see the benefits of being affiliated and partnered with the UPSL. From regional support securing venues, to sponsorship opportunities and lowering insurance premiums, we think that the UPSL Masters Division is going to have a unifying impact upon those hundreds of leagues across the country."
Alberto Schroth, 52, will assume the role of UPSL Masters Division Operations Manager.
Schroth played collegiately at the University of Southern California and holds a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from University of Southern California. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Schroth is an Engineering Manager at Aerojet Rocketdyne in Canoga Park (Calif.), and previously was an Engineering Manager at Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems in El Segundo (Calif.).
A former player with Los Angeles Soccer Club during the late 1980s playing semi-pro in the Golden West Soccer League, Schroth has long been involved in management of L.A.-based teams. In 2015, the 50-year-old league was incorporated and renamed Southern California Futbol Association (SCFA).
United Premier Soccer League Masters Division Operations Manager Alberto Schroth said, "Our goal is to help leagues lower their costs by leveraging the size of the UPSL to lower the price of certain necessary components like insurance, while gaining resources to obtain venue permits and expand upon sponsorship opportunities that will grow the league."
Teams and age-groups (Over-40s, Over-48s, Over-55s) will continue to be added to the UPSL Masters Division in the coming weeks and months.
