-- In honor of Purple Heart Day, event planning firm WM Events sponsored a hole at the inaugural Purple Heart Day Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 465 and held on August 7 at Heritage Golf Links in Tucker. For his support, WM Events Principal William Fogler was honored a Special Recognition Award.
"My father was a veteran, so It was important to me to offer my support for veterans on this year's Purple Heart Day," said Fogler. "When local organizations hold events that honor members of our community who served, I am happy to be part of that effort."
The golf tournament was held in honor of the late State Department of Veterans Services Commissioner Pete Wheeler, who served in that capacity for 66 years. Wheeler's daughter and son-in law, Frances and Mark Jones, as well as two of his grandsons were in attendance along with current Commissioner Mike Roby. State Representative District #87 Earnest "Coach" Williams also supported the event and played on a team. In addition to local golfers, players traveled from Chattanooga, Tennessee, to be a part of the fundraiser.
Proceeds from this year's event will enable continued assistance to needy veterans and support of local first responders. The day's events culminated with Atlanta City Hall being lighted in purple.About WM Events
