HOUSTON - Aug. 27, 2018 - PRLog -- The Houston JerkFest is marking its third year in the city of Houston, bringing with it a colorful mix of Caribbean music, flavors and culture. The event features a jerk (Caribbean seasoning) cook-off competition where contestants compete for a $1,000 cash prize, live bands, and a kids' zone with activities for children, along with vendors offering food and cultural items. The event is hosted by Nyam Cash Promotions, Key Players Entertainment and The Social Warriors.

The concerts feature live music and bands with headliners Reggae superstar Wayne Wonder and the Soca princess Naila Blackman. Wonder became an international sensation when he signed to Atlantic Records, achieving worldwide success with the song "No Letting Go" in 2003. The single reached No. 11 in the U.S.and No. 3 in the UK, and his follow up album, Foreva, reached No. 6 on the U.S. Top Reggae Albums chart. Blackman is a Trinidadian singer and songwriter whose rise to fame earned her candidacy in BET's 2018 "Best New International Act" viewer's choice competition.

A portion of the proceeds from the Houston JerkFest will go to The Social Warriors Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization established in response to Hurricane Harvey and the overwhelming needs of flood victims. The organization has hosted several events around the city, including a Christmas celebrity shopping spree for disadvantaged youth. The students had 15 minutes to use a $100 gift card to shop paired with a local influencer who accompanied them throughout the store. Celebrity participants included local notables such as Grammy-nominated recording artist Paul Wall, Bun B, Slim Thug, Z-Ro, Kirko Bangz, Propain, jeweler to the stars Johnny Dang, celebrity trainer Milton Harris, as well as 97.9 The Box radio personalities J-Mac and DJ J-Que.

"We are excited for this year's event, which will be even bigger and better than the years before," said event organizer GT Mayne, a popular Radio One DJ. "I started the Fest to highlight the rich Caribbean culture that exists in Houston, and the city has responded with excitement and support. We look forward to seeing people of all ages at this fun and creative cultural event!"
