Kansas' Official 19th Amendment Centennial Event Announced

WICHITA, Kan. - Aug. 27, 2018 - PRLog -- On August 18, 1920, the 19^th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States was ratified establishing women's right to vote. A three-day, statewide event to mark the centennial anniversary of this landmark expansion of freedom will be held August 13, 14 and 15, 2020, hosted in Wichita, Kansas. The purpose of the event is to foster unity, provide training and promote women's leadership throughout the state of Kansas.

While many events may be centered on and around the 19^th Amendment centennial, by proclamation of the Kansas Senate and House of Representatives, this celebration will serve as the official suffrage celebration in Kansas.

Events will include workshops designed to inspire and educate the next generation of women leaders, a lasting art exhibit and a formal gala. There will be several award luncheons honoring Kansas women in a wide variety of professional fields including arts and sciences, business and entrepreneurship, service and mentorship and more.

The 19^th Amendment Centennial Board of Directors has been formed and the group has secured 501(c)(3) status. Volunteers from across the state are being recruited; donations and sponsorships are open and available at www.19thcentennial.com.

Members of the Board of Directors include:  Catherine Linaweaver, President; Amy Spurgeon, Treasurer; Sheree Nikkel Dixon, Secretary; Sharon Cranford, Nicole Howerton, Marcia Wood and Martha Pint. An executive director, Lori Graham, has been appointed and also serves on the board.

The 19^th Amendment Centennial:  the Official Kansas Suffrage Celebration is organized under the auspices of the 100^th of the 19^th Foundation, led by a Board of Directors and registered as a 501(c)(3). By proclamation of the Kansas Senate (No. 1794, sponsored by Sen. Tyson) and House of Representatives (No. 6062, sponsored by Reps. Humphries, Alford, Amberger, Aurand and Baker), the statewide event will be held August 13, 14 and 15, 2020, to foster unity, provide training and promote women's leadership throughout the state of Kansas.
