Founded in 2016, Houston-Based Pro Development Club Joins UPSL
By: United Premier Soccer League
Based in the United States' fourth-largest city, Houston FC begins UPSL play in the UPSL Pro Premier Central Conference, and will host its home games at St. Thomas Episcopal Soccer Field (4113 Willowbend Blvd., Houston, TX 77025) in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards.
United Premier Soccer League Central Conference Manager Matt Kahla said, "There are exciting opportunities that teams are seizing with the UPSL, and we're pleased to welcome Houston FC to the Central Conference South Division for the Fall Season. Houston FC has put together two strong PDL campaigns and want to extend its program full-time, and we support that and look forward to Houston FC's participation this season."
Houston FC is owned by Bruce Talbot, Jeff and Julia Fetzer, and Derek Green. The club has participated in the Pro Development League (PDL) since 2017.
Bruce Talbot is General Manager and Head Coach of Houston FC. A Florida native, Talbot played at University of North Carolina, and coached at both UNC and Clemson University prior to Houston FC's launch two years ago.
Houston Football Club General Manager and Head Coach Bruce Talbot said, "We have a pool of 60-plus players and I wanted to see what the UPSL was like. Our older players will continue to play PDL and our younger players will play UPSL first and will also host tryouts. We'll support the UPSL and right now it's perfect because we don't chase cups and we want UPSL to be a priority. We're about developing players at Houston FC, and getting them ready for the next step. I think the UPSL will help us do that."
Houston FC also operates a youth academy with three competitive boys teams (u12, u17 and u19) and plans to grow.
The club soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.
