The nominees will present their innovation at the Food Health and Technology Summit where the audience will select the final winner. The summit is scheduled to take place at Rutgers University on September 7th 2018 at 12:30 pm. "It is exciting to see young people taking initiative to solve problems they see around them. This award is just a way of acknowledging their efforts and encouraging them to press on" said Julia Olayanju PhD Founder at Foodniche which facilitates the Summit GroGreen GroGreen Tech is a company that aims to minimize the amount of "ugly produce" that goes to waste each year. GroGreen Tech an iOS app that connects local farms to restaurants and juice bars in NYC. Through a custom app, restaurants and juice bars can buy ugly produce from farms at cheaper prices while these farms now make the majority of the profit on orders of produce they would otherwise have to throw away, thus benefiting both parties. GroGreen Tech was founded in 2015 by Priya Mittal. In 2016, Mittal was selected as a finalist in the Technovation World Summit, a Global Computer Science and Entrepreneurship Competition for girls. She was awarded 2nd place at the Intuit pitch Challenge and a finalist in the #BUILTBYGIRLS challenge, a National Computer Science and Entrepreneurship competition for girls. Mittal is a freshman at Brown University. Sulis Sulis is a solar powered water purification system for communities without access to clean water, whether they are in developing countries or recovering from natural disasters. The team's research shows that using sunlight the technology could sanitize 20 liters of water in seven hours. The team plans to manufacture and distribute a series of solar radiation-based photocatalytic sanitization devices to locations that lack potable water. The co-founders of this company are Anurag Modak, Sarah Pomeranz, Yuki Osumi, and Ari Mendelow. The team is mentored by Mukesh Patel a serial entrepreneur and founding director of the Innovation Lab Rutgers University Honor College. The team developed a functioning prototype, raised $40,000 from crowdfunding, and conducted two pilot programs in India. Team Sulis is currently participating in the Hult Prize Competition in London along with 40 other finalist from around the world for a 1 million dollar prize.
