Second Wind Dreams Launches New Family Virtual Dementia Tour Care Initiative

Internationally-known nonprofit organization releases new Virtual Dementia Tour® program initiative to meet the need for more comprehensive, person-centered dementia care.

ROSWELL, Ga. - Aug. 22, 2018 - PRLog -- Second Wind Dreams® (SWD®) creates the Family Virtual Dementia Tour as a specialized program to meet the growing need for family-specific, person-centered care.

Second Wind Dreams (SWD) improves the quality of life for elders through the fulfillmentof dreams and the offering of its patented Virtual Dementia Tour® (VDT®) to more than three million people in 20 countries and thousands of health care entities in the U.S. As the population grows older around the world, SWD focuses its resources on developing ways to increase caregivers' ability to provide empathic care.

Eighty-three percent of care is currently provided by families in the home of a person with dementia. The Family Virtual Dementia Tour will allow a trained provider to go into the family's home and facilitate the tour to simulatehow the person with dementia perceives his/her specific home environment. A clinical consultation is included in the program, allowing the family to discuss observations and explicit needs for the household, creating tailored action items for the caregivers to use in the future.

As the number of people with dementia rises exponentially, the Family VDT not only shows what it is like to have dementia, but suggests practical, exact action items for caregivers and households to implement in future care. After experiencing the Family VDT, caregivers report increased sensitivity to the challenges faced by their loved ones with dementia.
