Addiction Treatment and Behavioral Health Provider Closing
TriCounty Behavioral Health Services announced that it will be closing at the end of the month.
Local residents, government representatives and healthcare officials were surprised at the news. TriCounty's executive director revealed that the reason was due to finances.
TriCounty's closure leaves huge treatment gaps that need to be filled. The organization is the only behavioral health provider in the state licensed to do mental health assessments.
Last week, a public meeting was held at the Taos County Courthouse to discuss potential avenues to ensure there are minimal lapses in patient treatment needs.
While one nonprofit organization stepped forward, it unfortunately would take months for it to become licensed by the state's Department of Health. Instead, Presbyterian Healthcare Services may assist the local community after TriCounty closes.
The public meeting was cut short due to safety threats that placed the courthouse on lockdown.
U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján wrote Gov. Susana Martinez asking what she plans to do to address the situation. He emphasized how healthcare services could lapse for thousands of residents if a solution wasn't found soon.
