By: Van Johnson Van Day is destined to bring the community out and celebrate back to school in an artful and fun-filled way. On August 26th, children from all over the Chicago(land) "I'm not only thrilled but I'm honored to have an event named after me," said Van Johnson, VH1 reality star and owner of Chicagorilla. "When Nando's came to me with this day I immediately wanted to do something that gave back to children and stimulated their creativity all in one." Van Day will entail a 5 hour day of entertaining games, paint and so much more! Kids get to personally meet Van the man himself and get to be involved in various activities including: ● Sidewalk chalk contest ● Paint with Chicagorilla (get a chance to paint your own shirts with Van and the Chicagorilla staff) ● Back to school supplies drive ● Exciting game tables "The relationship we have with Van Johnson represents a powerful collaboration for both brands to significantly expand our presence in the Chicago community. Van Johnson has expressed that he wants to use the national platform that he has and provide a platform for small businesses and organizations to help get a head and we listened. We're excited to collaborate with Van as both of our missions is to spark that fire into people's lives whether that be through food or through film," says Nando's management team. In addition to all the live games and activities that will be taking place on Van Day, Van Johnson and Nando's Peri-Peri have decided to donate 40% percent of Nando's purchase proceeds to Black is Gold Chicago that day. Black is Gold Chicago is an organization founded by three Chicago teens, Amber Anderson, Jillian Shognule, and Laila Webster, who designed a peer mentoring group for African-American teenage girls in the Chicagoland area. Their purpose is to help develop young African American women through a multitude of outlets, including: community outreach, building sisterhood, hosting educational girl talks and workshops that help prepare young women enter into the workforce, college readiness, & empower young women.
