FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Aug. 17, 2018 - PRLog -- Are you a renter? Have you or someone you know been turned down to rent? Worried that your community is getting priced out? Want to do something about it? On Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 12pm MerrickDamon's Keep It Moving Series continues with its Community Connection: Renters Summit. The Summit will feature three esteemed speakers to help empower renters with knowledge and processes for dealing with renter discrimination.

The Keep It Moving Community Connection Renters Summit will feature briefings from experts and community leaders, followed by a Q&A session. Our goal is to inspire a chorus of voices to empower themselves. It's free, and here's what you can expect:

MerrickDamon Real Estate and Keep It Moving Founder Merrick Damon Williams will kick off the morning with an overview of Renter Empowerment.
• The panelists will give briefings on:
  • Community engagement in rental housing.
  • Key legal issues facing renters and their communities.
  • Navigating around Home Owner's Associations (HOAs).
  • The role of government in curbing renter discrimination and abuses.
• A panel Q&A session to answer your questions.

Panelists include:
Carolyn Hicks-Washington, Housing Program Coordinator, Urban League of Broward County (a HUD Certified Housing Counseling Agency). Carolyn's team does rental and home purchase counseling, financial education, mortgage default & delinquency counseling and provides counseling services for the homeless, handles fair housing discrimination complaints, and helps get housing for veterans.

Charmaine Williams, Education & Outreach Coordinator at Housing Opportunities Project for Excellence (H.O.P.E.). Charmaine does community outreach, improve housing education, promotes fair housing, and works toward eliminating housing discrimination.

Wendy Wilson, Staff Attorney for Florida Affordable Housing and Community Development Legal Project at Legal Aid Service of Broward County. Wendy works to protect the legal rights and protections for renters and tenants, including those in the newly amended Broward County Human Rights Ordinance.
