Fundraiser for Martin County Sheriff's Office K9 Grim
The majority of K9 units do not have the funds to purchase this protective K9 equipment. Due to budget cuts and other economic issues 92% of all K9 units are run solely on donations from nonprofits such as Project Paws Alive. Most citizens assume that because the K9 is an officer of the agency the K9 must therefore have a budget for all the protective equipment it needs. This assumption is entirely false.
Many Law Enforcement K9 Units do not have the budget to purchase these life-saving pieces of equipment. Most agencies are prohibited from spending funds on equipment that is not for human officer use. A majority of these units are classified as "non-essential"
These highly trained K9s dutifully protect and serve us every day and we believe they should be protected in return.
