Bike the Bicentennial on the Prairie Heritage Ride

The official bicycle ride of the Illinois Bicentennial, a seven-day event series called the Prairie Heritage Ride, is being hosted by Illinois Department of Agriculture at the Illinois State Fairgrounds beginning on September 8th.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Aug. 14, 2018 - PRLog -- Springfield Bicycle Club's Capital City Century Weekend kicks off the event series. On Saturday, riders can  experience the longest rails-to-trails bridge in Illinois, visit Springfield historic sites by bicycle, and attend a free festival. On Sunday, they will be encouraged to stretch their abilities on the 46th Annual Classic Century ride, which has 25 to 125 mile route options. There's also a free Family Ride on Sunday. Camping is available all weekend.

The Prairie Heritage Ride will continue on Monday with a five day tour organized by Bicycle Illinois that highlights the vital and historically significant role that agriculture has played in the State. Riders will engage in agri-tourism, visiting working farms and ag history sites that showcase central Illinois agriculture, while making stops in Lincoln, Bloomington, Champaign, and Decatur before returning to Springfield on Friday.
