Monsanto Roundup Verdict is Great News For Four Georgia Landscapers Who Developed Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma After Using Roundup Herbicide
ATLANTA - Aug. 11, 2018 - PRLog -- On Friday August 10, 2018, a California jury issued a verdict in favor of the plaintiff in the first Roundup case to go to trial regarding its causation of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Roundup is a herbicide manufactured by Monsanto. The active ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate, has been shown to have a link to certain cancers, specifically, non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The federal lawsuits filed by the Georgia landscapers have been combined with other cases around the country in a multidistrict litigation (MDL) which is venued in the U.S. District Court of Northern California. Jonathan W. Johnson, an Atlanta attorney, originally filed four cases in the U.S. District Court of Northern Georgia. Each of these cases have subsequently been transferred to the MDL in California. Johnson expects to file additional cases in the near future.
The first case involves Jarvis A. White, a Fairburn, Georgia resident who was a landscaper for over 15 years. He used Roundup while engaging in his landscaping business. Mr. White stated, "My first symptoms of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma were lumps in my groin area and waking up at night drenched in sweat." He was diagnosed with Stage IV non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in December 2013. Although he has had chemotherapy treatment, his diagnosis is terminal. The second lawsuit involves James F. Brown, an Oxford Georgia resident, who started a property service company in 1986 after retiring from professional boxing. His company provided multiple services including landscaping to apartment complexes and other properties. He stated, "We used Roundup in my business because of its effectiveness."
The third case involves Thomas E. Randall, a Stone Mountain, Georgia resident who used Roundup in a heavily wooded area of his property for 6 years to destroy the undergrowth. He stated, "I used Roundup because it was the best-known brand and it was effective." He was diagnosed with Stage IV non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2008. The fourth case involves John R. Simmons, a Trion, Georgia resident who used Roundup extensively when he worked as a maintenance man and groundskeeper for the Trion City School System. He said, "I used Roundup weekly as an herbicide to control weeds and other undesirable plants on the various properties held by the school system." He was diagnosed with Stage I non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2012. He underwent months of chemotherapy in early 2013. He further stated, "I have been informed that the non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is in remission; however, I am required to undergo a CT scan and bloodwork every six months to monitor my health."
