By: Bindlestiff Tours Over the course of the last few years, there has been some confusion arising about Grand Canyon tours that leave from Las Vegas. Traditionally the tours visited the South Rim, where the Grand Canyon National Park is located. This is the area that you have seen in magazines and photographs, and is the one where the rafting and donkey rides, as well as the hiking and exploring are found. Several years ago the Navajo Indian tribe put forth a campaign to attract Las Vegas tourists to an area of the canyon that they control, where there had been little for tourism in the past. A large glass bridge was constructed as a tourist attraction, and a large marketing campaign followed discussing how a visitor could tour the Grand Canyon only 2 hours from Las Vegas. While this attracts many people who only have very limited time to spend, many more are disappointed to find out once they are there that this area is far less scenic and developed than the National Park. For this reason, we urge visitors planning to visit the Grand Canyon to make sure that they tour they are booking is the correct one, and that if you are wanting to visit the national park area that you verify that you are visiting the SOUTH RIM.
