By: The Greater Boston Morehouse Alumni Associaton The weekend typically boasts many celebrities including Morehouse Alum film producer, actor and professor, Spike Lee who has attended in the past. The weekend will include a community service project, awards ceremony, and a live concert featuring Grammy Nominated Artist, Angie Stone who stated "I am very proud to be a part of this event." "Morehouse is rich with history and I am happy to perform on this beautiful island of Martha's Vineyard and represent excellence and fellowship." "As president of the GBMCAA, part of my charge is to ensure we continue to have a positive impact in the Greater Boston and New England communities. The House on the Vineyard Weekend events align perfectly with our mission, and as with last year, we are excited to offer an awesome line-up of activities and entertainment for all to enjoy, concluded Baker." Founded in 1972 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, The Greater Boston Morehouse College Alumni Association (GBMCAA) encourages and promotes a culture of scholarship and a community of mentorship by developing a sustainable pipeline between Morehouse College and Greater Boston. Weekend Events: Thursday, August 9th at 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM: A GBMCAA community service opportunity at the Thrift Shop in Vineyard Haven. The Thrift Shop's mission is to enhance the lives of those it serves by meeting the comprehensive needs of individuals, families, and the community through a partnership of programs, which provide accessible education as well as health and human services. The duties will consist of reorganizing, purging, and painting. Friday, August 10th at 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM: The Legacy of Light Lux Awards. This event will be held at the Martha's Vineyard Museum honoring businesswoman and community leader Benaree "Bennie" Wiley and Reverend Dr. Otis Moss III (class of '92) and will be followed by the Legacy of Light Concert, at which is held in conjunction with the African American film festival. Live performances at 7:00 PM – 9:15 PM by Grammy Nominated artist, Angie Stone, artist & author, Fonzworth Bentley (class of '92), and musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer, PJ Morton (class of '03), and the Woo Factor Band. Saturday, August 11th at 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Family Fun Beach Party at the Ink Well. Alumni DJ Tron & Legendary DJs will perform and guests are welcomed to bring games and beach items. A Clambake at 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM will be held at Joseph Sylvia State Beach in Edgartown, music will be provided, and tickets must be purchased in advance. Sunday, August 12th at 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Church service will be held at Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs; Reverend Dr. Otis Moss III will be the guest speaker.
