United Premier Soccer League Announces New Texas Expansion Club San Antonio Runners SC

LOS ANGELES - July 31, 2018 - PRLog -- The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is excited to announce San Antonio Runners Soccer Club as a new league member starting with the 2018 Spring Season.

Based in San Antonio (Tex.), Runners SC will begin UPSL play in the Central Conference Heart Division. The club will play its UPSL home games at University of Texas San Antonio (1 UTSA Circle, San Antonio, TX 78249) in compliance with UPSL Minimum Standards.

United Premier Soccer League Central Conference Manager Matt Kahla said, "The United Premier Soccer League has found a deep well of clubs in Texas ready for the next step, and I am excited about adding a third team into the San Antonio market with Runners Soccer Club. Mason Rankin has led the club for some time, and the Runners are going to be competitive in the Central Conference. We wish Mason Rankin and San Antonio Runners SC every success."

Mason Rankin is Executive Director and Head Coach of the Men's Soccer Club at University of Texas-San Antonio, a student-run non-profit based in San Antonio (Tex.). Founded in 1996, UTSA Men's Soccer Club is the only competitive men's program for the university's students.

Rankin, 23, recently received his MSB from University of Texas-San Antonio. He started with the UTSA Men's Soccer Club as a student-athlete in 2015 and became graduate head coach ahead of the 2017 fall season.

San Antonio Runners SC General Manager Mason Rankin said, "We're excited for the opportunity to join the UPSL and be a part of the United States' fastest-growing league. We believe this is the best platform for our players and the higher-level players at this university right now, and we look forward to playing league matches in 2019."

The UTSA Men's Soccer Club will continue to operate under the director of Rankin, who stays on as the club's Executive Director and Head Coach.

"I want this club to also serve as a way to help UTSA students and the local community practice in real time what they learn in the classroom," Rankin said. "It's a wonderful business, and there's never been anything like this before in San Antonio so we're running with it."

Tryouts will be held Aug. 25-26 at UTSA Campus Recreation Field Complex (6900 N. Loop 1604 W, San Antonio, TX 78249). Registration forms can be found at www.sarunners.org.

San Antonio Runners SC is hiring front office and coaching staff positions, and soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 200 teams in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.
