"Radically ancient" method of Bible study brings revival

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - July 23, 2018 - PRLog -- Steve Cook, creator of the highly interactive Bible Study series, Witness The Bible (as featured on Bible Gateway (https://biblegateway.com/devotionals)), and 5-time #1 Amazon Best-Selling Audiobook Narrator, has now added the daily devotional series, Memo Devo: Memorization as Devotion, to his ministry's list of Bible-based entertainment, curricula and study tools.

"I wanted to share this new 'workout' I've found that's actually guaranteed by Jesus Himself to bring the result I desire: namely, to align my own will with His will. And all I have to do is commit to doing one simple exercise every day – letting Jesus' words literally ABIDE in me, as He encourages me to do in John 15:7-8." That's Cook describing what he calls this "radically ancient" form of Bible study.

"For almost HALF of our recorded existence (2700 years), God chose NOT to have His Word written down at all. To me that's significant. I mean, God could have put a printing press right there in the Garden of Eden if He wanted to, right?", says Cook, "And even after that, the Word wasn't widely distributed in written form for thousands more years, certainly when Jesus taught. There's something very powerful about having God's Word literally dwell in me."

The idea behind Memo Devo is the belief that Scripture promises at least 3 things from the process of memorizing, pondering and speaking back of God's Word: 1) better intimacy with God, 2) a better witness for God, and 3) better protection from sin under God. Cook's entire ministry, Five Talents Audio, is devoted to modeling, facilitating and inspiring that process, which he believes has been largely forgotten in the age of smartphones and portable computers.

"In the Sermon on the Mount, when referring to Scripture, Jesus always begins with "You have heard it said..." rather than "You have read...". People HAD to memorize God's Word through story and song if they were going to share it, and then trust the Holy Spirit to sanctify them through that process." says Cook, "But the bottom line is that this simple act of love for Jesus has brought deep personal revival to my own walk with Him, and I believe it will do the same for anyone else."

Memo Devo lays out familiar passages from Scripture and gives step-by-step instructions on how to begin memorizing them. Says Cook, "Think of it as a 'starter kit' for better Bible memorization". The devotions range in length from 4 verses up to 18. Cook encourages folks to prayerfully try them out as substitutes for their current daily devotions, and see what the Spirit will do as a result.
