Lawsuit Filed by Jonathan W. Johnson, LLC on Behalf of Legal Immigrant in DUI Hit and Run by Suspected Illegal Immigrant

Victim Shocked That Drunk Hit And Run Driver Was Released by Dekalb Police
ATLANTA - July 20, 2018 - PRLog -- Ena Chen (25) was hit and injured by a drunk driver who was speeding and driving on the wrong side of the highway. Norberto Sanchez-Carrillo (31) fled the scene but his vehicle broke down on the highway two miles away where he was located by DeKalb County Police. Sanchez-Carrillo had no license. According to the responding officer, Sanchez-Carrillo spoke very little English, but per department policy was not allowed to inquire about his legal status. The vehicle driven by Sanchez Carrillo was owned and insured by Amilcar Sanchez-Carrillo, who had an inaccurate address on the police report. Additionally, per DeKalb County Jail policy, the jail cannot accept injured detainees. Instead, Sanchez-Carrillo, who was injured, was taken by ambulance to DeKalb Medical Center and given a notice of arraignment scheduled for October 2, 2018. Sanchez-Carrillo received citations for driving without a license, hit and run, driving on the wrong side of the highway, and driving under the influence.  Ms. Chen stated, "I saw the driver in front of me swerve out of the way and then all I saw was headlights coming directly towards me." The filed case is in Gwinnett State Court, Case Number 18C-05163-S4.  The accident occurred on July 1, 2018.

Ena Chen was transported by ambulance to Grady Memorial after the accident where she was treated for injuries to her head and received stitches to her face and underarm.  She had a fracture of small bones behind the eyes. Her mother stated that Ena has not been the same since the accident due to memory difficulties, fear of driving, and severe anxiety which has caused her to sleep with her mother since the date of the accident.  Ms. Chen's mother said, "I can't believe they let this guy go.  We did everything properly and came to this country legally.  This guy is driving drunk on the wrong side the road, hits my baby, and flees from the scene, yet he is released!  I am very angry!"

At the age of 15, Ena Chen fled a dangerous and abusive situation in Serbia, her country of birth, to come to the United States to find refuge and safety as a legal immigrant to the United States. She has become a United States citizen.

Jonathan W. Johnson, LLC has filed suit in Gwinnett county against the driver and owner of the vehicle which caused the collision and Ms. Chen's injuries.  Mr. Johnson stated, "We did a background check on the drunk driver.  He appears to be a person who arrived in the United States within the last couple of years and my investigation has not revealed any documented employment for him, or any well established connections to the United States."
